It is best known for the amphitheater, which is the best-preserved example in the whole world. There was also a city with a market, temple and other buildings.<\/p>\n<h2><b>History<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Aspendos was the most important city in Pamphylia, a Roman province. It was located along the Eurymedon River, 16 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. Aspendos was founded around 1000 BC. founded by settlers from the Greek city-state of Argos.<\/p>\n<p>Because many coins from Aspendos have been found in the region around Aspendos, it has become clear that it was a large trading center at the time. Much was traded there in salt, oil and wool.<\/p>\n<p>In 190 BC. the city was taken by the Romans, who stole all the art treasures.
