Knotted houses in Düğmeli Evler (2 hours)

he unique knotted houses are located in Düğmeli Evler. The reason for being called knotted houses stems from the architecture. They used the wood they cut from the cedar tar tree as a skeleton, clamped it together, built the building by stacking the bricks and without using mortar or cement. Because the outer parts of the skeleton resembled a knot, they called it houses with knots.

The original structures reflect the traditional Ottoman architecture (Akseki) and some villages are known as knotted house-villages. A traditional Akseki house consists of 2 floors and stone walls. Although the stone wall resembles the main support, the house bears a wooden frame.

Visiting the knotted houses can easily be combined with a visit to theAltınbeşik Mağarası Milli Parkı..
